Yearly Pap Smears and Cervical Cancer Screening
It is vital to your overall health that you schedule and keep routine exams with your gynecologist. During these appointments, Dr. Evans will perform an age-appropriate screening for cervical cancer and a pap smear. Both tests use samples of cells from the cervix; however, a pap smear is used to identify abnormal cells in the cervix that could indicate cancer, and a cervical screening test specifically looks for HPV.
Breast Cancer Screening
Breast cancer screenings are the main way terminal breast cancer is prevented. During this screening, Dr. Evans specifically looks for lumps or masses in the breasts and any changes to the appearance or texture of the breast skin. If she detects something abnormal during her exam, she will recommend further testing, which could include mammography, ultrasonography, or both.
Ovarian Cancer Screening
Another test performed during a routine gynecological exam is ovarian cancer screening. During the pelvic exam, Dr. Evans will feel the ovaries and uterus to ensure their size and shape are normal. These levels are verified through a simple blood test done in-office.
