If you struggle with conditions like endometriosis or chronic fibroids, an abdominal hysterectomy may help you feel more comfortable in your body. Abdominal hysterectomies are essential procedures that can remove all or part of a diseased uterus to help you enjoy a better quality of life.

Dr. Evans at Sugar Land Medical Spa in Houston can provide diagnostics to determine whether you need an abdominal or robotic hysterectomy.

What Is an Abdominal Hysterectomy?

An abdominal hysterectomy is a type of surgery in which Dr. Evans removes some or all of the uterus using an incision in the abdominal wall. She may perform an abdominal hysterectomy to treat various benign and cancerous conditions.

Hysterectomies can also help resolve fibroids, heavy bleeding, and endometriosis. Hysterectomy surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures and the most frequently performed non-obstetrical procedure on women in the United States.

Recovery & Aftercare

Recovering from an abdominal hysterectomy can be prolonged and more difficult than with a robotic hysterectomy. There will be specific aftercare instructions for your abdominal incision, which will run along your lower abdomen.

Sutures on this incision will need to be removed about one week after your procedure, and your incision will need to be well-maintained for about four to six weeks to avoid scarring. You may also need to avoid strenuous activity or exercise that could cause impact to the surgical site.
