What Are the Benefits of Hymenoplasty?
Hymenoplasty can repair the natural tissue that separates the lower and upper parts of the vagina. Dr. Evans offers the procedure to Houston women as a way of restoring their hymen to its earlier state.
Patients decide to have hymenoplasty for a variety of reasons. These include adherence to social, religious, and cultural traditions. As part of treatment with our practice, Dr. Evans will work to ensure that you have the information you need to make a good decision in regards to your care.
Is Hymenoplasty Right for You?
Know that hymenoplasty is not medically necessary but if desired, you may be a good candidate if you meet the following criteria.
Your goal is to restore the hymen to its original condition. During the surgery, Dr. Evans will attempt to repair the tissue that separates the upper and lower vagina.
You are healthy enough to have surgery. Hymenoplasty is an outpatient cosmetic procedure, and so most women without medical problems should be able to receive treatment. As part of your consultation at Sugar Land Medical Spa, Dr. Evans and her staff will take a full medical history to promote your safety.
You have no complicating factors that affect the procedure. Dr. Evans will perform a comprehensive examination, talk with you about what to expect after surgery, and guide you in your treatment decisions.
For many patients, the goal of hymenoplasty is to restore their features to a “virginal” state. While the surgery will repair the tissue of the hymen, women may also wish to have additional procedures to achieve the desired degree of rejuvenation. Surgeries may include:
Labiaplasty
With this procedure, Dr. Evans resizes or reshapes the labial tissue at the entrance to the vagina. This can create a more compact and youthful appearance.
Vaginoplasty
Dr. Evans offers vaginoplasty as a way of tightening the vaginal opening. This procedure has the additional benefit of enhancing sexual sensation.
Perineoplasty
As a result of physical trauma or childbirth, women may have damage to the skin between the vagina and anus. Surgery can repair this damage and provide aesthetic improvement.
What Is the Recovery from Hymenoplasty Like?
Most patients who have hymenoplasty need six to eight weeks to recover. This gives the tissue that Dr. Evans repairs time to heal.
Many procedures can be done in office, but if more extensive, patients can have their procedure in one of several Houston-area hospitals where Dr. Evans holds staff privileges. These include Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and Memorial Herman Sugar Land Hospital.
Dr. Evans provides several different levels of anesthesia for surgery performed in the hospital. Most patients will receive either IV sedation or general sedation, which are administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Our practice’s priorities are your complete comfort and safety.
During your surgery, Dr. Evans will use sutures to repair the tissue of the hymen. These sutures will dissolve over the six-to-eight week healing period, and by the time you recover fully, you should have the desired aesthetic result.
